SPRING CLEANING YOUR MARKETING
It’s Spring and with the sun shining in everywhere, people often look at their houses and wardrobes and think about a bit of spring cleaning, a fresh start and a clear out. It’s also a great time to look at your current marketing and get rid of the bits that aren’t working (as there will always be bits of your marketing not working as effectively as other parts).
Break down your marketing into the different channels you’re using and make sure you are getting a return on the amount you are spending in each channel (whether it is advertising, social media, online etc.).
Remember it is always better to have fewer channels working better than having lots of channels not working as effectively. Check that each channel is making a positive return (i.e. you’re getting more from it than you are investing in it). If it is a new channel for your business, consider using it for a little bit longer (as marketing channels sometimes take a while to perform) but make sure you review it within 3 months. If you have been using the channel for a while and it is costing you more than you’re getting back, consider putting your money and time somewhere else.
Many businesses I deal with have no idea what part of their marketing is working. Make sure you are tracking each lead coming into the business and where it came from. Put in place a tracking and reporting system where you can monitor the effectiveness of your marketing activities and identify where your marketing budget and resources should be allocated going forward.
Simply ask people where they heard about you and use Google Analytics for your online activity. Good luck with the Spring cleaning of your business. Let me know how you get on.
