YOUR MARKETING – HOW TO MAKE YOUR PR EFFECTIVE | PART TWO
In my last blog, I put together some key Public Relations (PR) points which I hope you found useful. Here are some more that will help you get more brand exposure;
4. Identify what media will appeal to your audience
Consider weekly papers, magazines, daily newspapers (morning and evening), trade press and broadcast media. Think about where your audience consumes their news and aim for that publication.
5. Find out and work to media deadlines
Find out when the deadline is and call to find out when they need information by.
6. Build relationships with journalists and publications
Talk to journalists about your story in advance to build a level of interest and follow up your press release to ensure they have all the information they need to write up your story. If your press release is being distributed on a small scale, then it’s easy enough to get the telephone numbers of the targeted newspapers, radio and tv stations, ring and find the named journalist you should address it to. Often, you’ll be told: “send it to the newsdesk.” Don’t let that stop you from asking for a name. Keep a file of all your contacts.
7. If you do an interview, try and enjoy it
· Think about the audience and what they’d find interesting
· Don’t be patronising – pitch yourself at the audience level
· Never lie
· Never comment on competitors
· Interviewers often pause in an attempt to get you to fill in the silence and say more – don’t!
8. Thank journalists If you got good coverage
Send a thank you email to show your appreciation. If you need help with your Public Relations, contact Marketing Eye on 0504 54816 or via showmehow@marketingeye.ie
